How to Block Adult Content on iPhone — Step by Step

Screen Time's built-in content filter, Safari limits and DNS options — set up in five minutes.

The built-in filter (no apps needed)

iPhone ships with a capable adult-content filter inside Screen Time. Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → Content Restrictions → Web Content → 'Limit Adult Websites'. This blocks known adult sites in Safari and applies an age-appropriate filter to other content.

Add your own block list

The same screen lets you add specific domains under 'Never Allow'. Add the sites that matter to your situation — the filter only works on domains it knows. For a system-wide approach, generate a hosts-style list on our blocker tool and apply it via a DNS profile or your router instead.

Lock it with a passcode

A filter you can disable with two taps isn't a filter. Use a Screen Time passcode that only a partner or friend knows — the friction of asking is part of the mechanism. This is the single most important step most people skip.

Also: app limits and grey areas

Screen Time's filter covers Safari but not every app with a built-in browser. Add App Limits for apps you know are weak points, and set Downtime for late-night hours when willpower is lowest. Layered distance beats a single wall.
